Full pattern / eternity wedding bands are a timeless symbol of love and commitment, featuring an unbroken row detailed thematic pattern encircling the band. While beautiful, their continuous design can make resizing a challenge. Whether your ring no longer fits due to weight changes, temperature fluctuations, or a different finger preference, here’s what you need to know about upsizing or downsizing our full pattern / eternity wedding bands.

Can our eternity wedding bands Be Resized?

Unlike plain bands or rings with a small gemstone setting, eternity rings are difficult to resize because the designs go all the way around the band. Traditional resizing methods—cutting the band, adding or removing metal, and soldering it back together—aren’t possible without disrupting the arrangement. However, there are a few options depending on your ring’s design and the amount of size adjustment needed.

Upsizing our Vintage-style wedding bands

If your eternity band is too tight, you have a few options:

1. Adding a Small Spacer or Bridge– A skilled jeweler may be able to insert a small piece of matching metal at the base of the band, slightly increasing the size. However, this method disrupts the full eternity look. We do not advise this method!

2. Stretching the Metal– If your ring is made of a malleable metal (such as gold or platinum) and has a channel setting with small stones, a jeweler might be able to stretch the band slightly. This is only viable for minor adjustments (usually half a size or less).

3. Remaking the Ring– For significant size increases, some jewelers offer to remake the ring entirely in a new size, resetting the original stones into a fresh band. This is often the best option for preserving the integrity of the design.

Downsizing our Vintage-style wedding bands

If your ring is too loose, resizing options are more limited but still possible:

1. Adding Sizing Beads or an Inner Liner– Jewelers can add small metal beads inside the ring or a thin metal liner to reduce the size slightly without altering the exterior design.

2. Remaking the Band in a Smaller Size– Like upsizing, the best way to reduce a ring’s size significantly is often to remake it in a smaller band while keeping the original stones.

3. Temporary Ring Adjusters– If you need a quick fix, removable ring adjusters (such as silicone inserts or metal spring guards) can be used to make the ring fit more snugly without permanent alterations.

Alternative Solutions

If resizing isn’t an option or would compromise the ring’s structure, consider:

Wearing the Ring on a Different Finger– If the size difference isn’t too extreme, wearing the eternity band on a larger or smaller finger can be a practical solution.

Using a Stackable Ring for Fit Adjustment– Wearing a snug-fitting ring next to your eternity band can help prevent it from slipping off.

Choosing the Right Size from the Start

Since resizing full pattern / eternity wedding bands is tricky, it’s best to get the perfect fit from the beginning. If you’re purchasing an eternity ring, consider:

Getting Professionally Sized– Have your finger measured by a jeweler under normal conditions (fingers can swell or shrink due to temperature and hydration).

Opting for a Half-Eternity Band– Half-eternity rings have stones only on the top half of the band, making resizing much easier.

Choosing a Slightly Looser Fit– If in doubt, slightly larger is better than too tight, as temporary sizing solutions can help with minor looseness.

Final Thoughts

While resizing an eternity band is challenging, it’s not always impossible. The best approach depends on the design, metal type, and amount of adjustment needed. If you’re unsure about your options, consult us for details!
